Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device
The Forsus Fatigue Resistant Device, or “bite springs” are the latest in technology for correcting class II bite problems. In the past, patients were required to wear headgears (night brace) or months and months of rubber bands to help correct this type of bite. At Streem Orthodontics, we routinely use the Forsus “bite springs” to avoid the use of headgear or other types of old technology.
The Forsus appliance is used in order to help move the upper molars back while moving the lower arch forward. Composed of a spring coil rod, the appliance is used while a patient is currently wearing braces. It runs from the upper first molar band down to the lower archwire.
The Forsus appliance works like elastics (rubber bands) but with more efficiency and effectiveness and without the need for patient compliance. Treatment time is often dramatically reduced, as well as a significantly reduced need for elastics wear.
If you have this appliance, please be careful with the rods. Do not play with them with your finger or tongue. If you open and one of the rods pulls out, please call the office- the rod may be too short. If the rods lock, please call the office. The appliance needs to be looked at. During the first few days with this appliance, you need to be careful with the foods you eat to get used to the appliance. Eat smaller pieces of food and softer foods for the first few days with this appliance.
